Ronny Chieng
Ronny Chieng
was born on 21 November, 1985. Non-primary source needed is a Malaysian actor
and comedian. Chieng is currently the senior correspondent of The Daily Show on
Comedy Central. He also produced and starred in the sitcom Ronny Chieng
International Student, that debuted on ABC Australia (Australia) in 2017.
Chieng was born to an Malaysian Chinese couple in Johor Bahru (Malaysia). From
1989 until 1994, he lived in Manchester in New Hampshire. Chieng performed at
an annual comedy festival in Melbourne, Australia in 2013, with Trevor Noah.
Chieng was later asked to take on the role of correspondent on Noah's Daily
Show two years later. Chieng was named one of the 10 Comics to Watch in
Variety's July 2016 issue. In October of 2016, Chieng joined The Daily Show to
discuss the controversy surrounding a Jesse Watters Fox News segment many
thought to be racist. Chieng offers a scathing critique of the show on the
conservative network. Chieng also re-visited New York City's Chinatown and
Chinatown, where Watters had mocked residents and conducted interviews more
respectfully in Mandarin as well as Cantonese. The viral video was featured in
Slate and the Washington Post. In his young years, Chieng was an Singapore Sea
Scout. While he's been in Australia for more than a decade Chieng does not hold
citizenship or permanent residency status in Australia. Chieng laughed in 2018
when he said the cynophobe was his name, but later claimed that he was
completely unafraid of dogs.
